Merkel Stands For Admittance Of International Inspectors To Belarusian NPP

The German Chancellor said this in Berlin at a joint press conference with her Lithuanian colleague Saulius Skvernelis.

Germany approves the admission of international inspectors to the construction of the Belarusian NPP, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in Berlin at a joint press conference with Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis, the Prime news agency reports.

— We can only stand for the participation of international inspectors, who would examine this construction, who would receive corresponding plans and documents, as the nuclear power remains a comprehensive phenomenon, the security issues are of particular importance here, — Angela Merkel said.

Previously, President of Lithuania Dalią Grybauskaitę called the Belarusian nuclear power plant a geopolitical project of Russia, “unfriendly aimed against Lithuania”.

— It’s an opportunity to blackmail and exert pressure on Lithuania, to prevent its synchronization with the West, — President of Lithuania said.

According to her, Lithuania should by all possible means stop the Belarusian NPP project and to demand safety and transparency.

— There is no doubt that we need to accomplish our homework — to protect our market from the electric power from such a power station leaking into it, and accelerate and improve the synchronization process (the ETL with the West — add.).
