The Belarusian airline has resolved the issue of compensation for the forced return of the aircraft to Kiev with the Ukrainian side.

The CEO of the Belarusian airline Anatol Husarau said about this to BelaPAN on February 7.

«The solution found was accepted and implemented. It fully meets the legislation of Ukraine and Belarus. The issue is closed. Compensation mechanism was found,» – Husarau said.

The CEO did not mention the amount of the compensation, noting that it is the same amount that was previously imposed on the Ukrainian side.

«We have found an option for compensation of our expenditures on flights to Ukraine. This fully satisfies us, – Husarau noted. – The Ukrainian side has made these steps with a full understanding. So the issue is closed.»

It is to be recalled that the Belavia aircraft Boeing 737-800 (tail number EW-456PA), while performing the V2-840 flight enroute from Zhulyany (Kiev) to Minsk on October 21, 2016, was returned to the airport of departure at the request of the Ukrainian Security Service. There were 136 passengers and six crew members on board. The crew was told that in case of noncompliance combat aircrafts would be lifted into the air. As a result, law enforcement agencies of Ukraine brought off a suspect passenger from the flight, an Armenian citizen. After checking he was released and he boarded the next flight to Belarus.

The threat of interception by combat aircrafts caused indignation of the Belarusian side. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry lodged a protest and handed a note to Ukraine. The Belarusian side demanded compensation for all financial costs and expenses.
