Mahiliou BNC Coordinator: Together We Are Invincible

The Freedom Day on March 25 in Minsk will give the greatest effect, therefore people from regions must join it.

Mahiliou Belarusian National Congress leader Yury Novikau told the site Charter97.org about it.

– Lukashenka backed up at the meeting yesterday, do you think the half-measures introduced by the authorities will lessen the protest sentiment of the people?

– It is important to understand that this is not a moratorium, but only a postponement. And in a year they will charge a greater amount, the basic value will change. It will not stop the people. It's not even about money, it's about the immorality of the decree. This law offends human dignity, not only of the so-called "parasites", but of everyone else, this is a real insanity. Not only the decree encouraged people to take action, but the socio-economic situation in the country affected the mood of people as well. The decree just became a catalyst. Everything, what is happening in the country, is to be expected and is meant to happen someday. You see who is taking to the streets today. They are not only those who have been affected by the decree, the entrepreneurs, the workers, who are hog-tied by the contract system, are in about the same situation. This power does not need free people.

– During the Sunday rally, the Brest residents announced that they intended to come to Minsk on March 25. Why does this particular rally turn to be such a high profile event?

– Minsk is the heart of our country. It compels all the attention. The rally in Minsk will have a great effect and resonance. And publicity is a rigid must here.

I would like to say to Belarusians – be together. A house divided against itself cannot stand. We will be heard only if we are together. The power pursues its goals, its own interests, and the people’s interests have diverged drastically with them. Together we are invincible.
