Here are the most interesting statements of the outraged Belarusians at the protest actions.

The Outraged Belarusians’ Marches showed that the Belarusian people had finally come out to the political stage.

Radio Liberty has collected the wittiest, most imaginative and paradoxial statements of the participants of the protest actions in Slonim, Hrodna, Babruisk, Pinsk and Rahachou.

“When Lukashenka was taking a vow, did he put his hand on the Constitution or on the Decree?” — a Slonim resident asked the head of the district executive committee on March 19.

“Decrees should make people happy!” A pause. The present are slightly bewildered. “Meanwhile, all we get is the letters of happiness”. This was an emotional remark of a lady in Babruisk on March 12.

“Mr. Lukashenka, you are poisoning us with palm oil!” — a heart-cry of a pensioner in Hrodna on March 15.

“There were more jobs in Babruisk before the revolution,” — an elderly man in Babruisk sadly noticed on March 12.

“There was easier to live in the post-war times for me than now,” — an old lady in Babruisk nearly cried, on March 12. Similar remarks referring to the post-war years were heard from many elderly people in the other cities as well.

“Life is better in Ukraine although the country is at war, and we live worse without the war,” — Babruisk, March 12.

“They used to herd the people to the central square on some Soviet holidays, and this is the first time the people gathered here by themselves!” — a lady exclaimed in Rahachou on March 12.

“I would say it straight – it’s not how it should work. It’s time to change the state rulers,” — Pinsk, March 11.

“What did our grandfathers went to war for?” — a mother with an infant in a stroller asked in Pinsk on March 11.
