Polish Foreign Ministry Reminded Belarusian Authorities Of Sanctions

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland is watching the arrests of opposition activists and journalists in Belarus with anxiety.

In a statement about the events in Belarus Warsaw urges Minsk to respect human rights and basic civil rights.

“We remind that the European Union decided to suspend sanctions due to the positive signals from Minsk. We hope that Belarus will keep to the course of dialogue it selected a year ago,” – the statement says.

The Polish Foreign Ministry said that Polish diplomats have raised the issue of freedom of assembly and protests in Belarus several times this week at meetings with Belarusian colleagues.

“Last year Poland initiated the revival of the political dialogue with Belarus, guided by the agreement on good-neighborliness, which was signed a quarter of a century ago, and signals of Belarusian authorities about their desire to establish relations between Belarus and the European Union,” – the Polish Foreign Ministry says in the statement.
