France Called On Belarusian Authorities To Respect Human Rights

France reminded about its commitment to freedom of manifestation, assembly, association and speech.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development of France published a statement (translation – Radio Svaboda) in connection with the arrests of demonstrators in Belarus.

France is concerned about the wave of arrests that are currently taking place in Belarus, engulfing opposition leaders, activists, citizens, journalists, in connection with their participation in peaceful demonstrations.

France reminds about its commitment to freedom of manifestation, assembly, association and speech.

Relations between the European Union and Belarus are to be based on common values: respect for human rights, principles of democracy and rule of law, in particular.
