Statkevich To Demonstrators: You Proved That You Are Led By Honor And Dignity

Belarusians are ready to become a full-fledged free European nation.

"You have proved that you are not led by leaders, but by your honor and dignity," – the leader of the Belarusian National Congress Mikalai Statkevich addresses the participants of the protests on Freedom Day after his release from the KGB jail, nn.by reports.

He apologizes that he could not be with people – "not of his own free will."

In his opinion, the actions of people on March 25 proved the growth of political and social consciousness of citizens.

"We Belarusians are up to become a full-fledged free European nation," – Statkevich says.

He spent three days in a solitary cell in the KGB jail. He was detained on March 23 at a safe apartment in Labanok Street in Minsk. He was charged with organization of mass riots, but in the morning of the 27th he was released – as unexpectedly as he had been arrested.
