Maniac With Chainsaw Sentenced To 15 Years

Kazakevich will serve his sentence in a general regime penal colony.

On Friday, at 10.30 am, Minsk City Court judge Piotr Arlou delivered the verdict in the high-profile case over the attack in the shopping center "Europe". The day before, taking part in the debate, the prosecutor said that 18-year-old Ulad Kazakevich’s blame had been entirely proved, tut.by reports.

– The High Court, the partial damage repayment, the defendant’s minor age at the time of committing the crime, his character evidence, the absence of repentance must be taken into account, while passing the sentence. Please find him guilty and sentence to 15 years in prison, – prosecutor Aleh Buyliankou said.

Neither the lawyer of the accused, nor the doctors brought up the issue of Kazakevich’s compulsory treatment. The defender only asked to reclassify Art. 139 of the Criminal Code "a murder" and to apply a legal provision covering a less serious crime, which carries a sentence of 6 to 15 years in prison, and to remove from the charge Art. 339 "hooliganism" and Art. 13 of the Criminal Code "preparation of a crime" because of lack of proof.

However, during the trial the defence lawyer asked to re-appoint the forensic psychiatric examination, but the court rejected the petition.

The defendant was brief in his final statement.

– Unfortunately, I failed to fulfill my plans on a mass murder. I'll be back to finish the started, – Kazakevich said coolly.

Then Ulad Kazakevich’s father commented on his son’s words:

– His words are the confirmation of the disease. He must be put under treatment by force. You see, how he behaves. This is savagery for me, but at the same time it is not a surprise, knowing his disease. None of the experts could give a logical answer, why my son had been found sane, – Valiantsin Kazakevich said.

Under the court decision, the accused must pay off to the victims 200,000 rubles (about 100 thousand dollars).

We remind that on October 8, the young man with a chainsaw arranged the attack in the shopping center "Europe", in the result of which 43-year-old saleswoman Alena Aleksandronets was killed, two other women were injured.
