Andrei Stryzhak: New Bright Leaders Of Popular Protests Appear In Belarus
ANDREI STRYZHAK

The struggle against the decree on "parasites" united citizens and taught them self-organization.

REP trade union activist Andrei Stryzhak said that in an interview to the Charter97.org site.

– Participants of the protest marches are united by the resentment against the Decree No. 3. It can be said that at the moment, the abolition of the decree on "parasites" became an idea that united people of different political views.

I would like to note that I participated in the peaceful meeting near the Homel court, in which there was held the session to consider the case of Aliaksandr Siamionau, the first "parasite", who appealed to the court.

Strictly speaking, the authorities themselves provoked that spontaneous peaceful assembly, since we had suggested allocating a larger space, because we knew that many people would come to the trial, but the authorities did not go for it. As a result, 300 people came, and the courtroom accommodated only 38. People were forced to stand on the street and discuss the situation on the decree there.

It must be said that the level of popular discontent is so high that even in the absence of organizers people go to spontaneous demonstrations. They self-organize in social networks, though we should not lessen the role of organizations and individuals, who rather do not lead, but initiate these activities.

In particular, the independent trade union REP protects the rights of workers and has carried out the collection of signatures for the abolition of Decree No. 3, having collected 25 thousand signatures on the Internet, which were sent to Lukashenka’s administration, and about as many signatures were collected manually.

This all shows people that there are organizations, activists, who are acting in favor of repealing the decree on "parasites". There are many people, who have appeared in the firmament of public activity only recently. For example, famous Homel video blogger Maksim Filippovich, whose channel "No Guarantees" has a big impact on people.

Now the Belarusian trade union of electronic industry workers collects signatures on the website zvarot.by for further appeal to the Constitutional Court for it to recognize that the Decree No. 3 is unconstitutional.
