The rule of vertukhais* in Belarus is coming to an end.

The Belarusian Television showed a propagandistic movie dedicated to the Outraged Belarusians’ Marches yesterday. One of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress Mikalai Statkevich, leaders of the “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Sannikov, Dzmitry Bandarenka, Yauhen Afnahel, Maxim Viniarski, and the charter97.org Editor-in-Chief Natallia Radzina were named as organizers of the protest actions.

The Charter97.org has addressed to one of the characters of the “movie” Dzmitry Bandarenka for a comment:

- Have you seen this work? What are your impressions?

- Apparently, this report has been created by obvious madmen, who make the majority at the Belarusian Television, as most Belarusians know. However, what I have noted for myself is the absolute Ukraine-phobic position of the authors. It’s a rare occasion to see such hatred to Ukraine and Ukrainians even at the Russian TV-channels.

- What do you think about the statement that Statkevich, Sannikov and several other people organized the Outraged Belarusians’ Marches all over the country?

- It serves them right – they shouldn’t have called my daughter, who lives and works abroad for many years, a social parasite. However, speaking seriously, we, as members of the Belarusian National Congress, do not hide that the BNC did organize the Outraged Belarusians’ Marches. It seems clear that the ordering customer of the movie, as well as its makers, are shaking with fear on the eve of the Freedom Day. They know the degree of the Belarusian people’s hatred to Lukashenka and his allies. They are trying to frighten the Belarusians with the change of authority, and don’t understand that most Belarusians simply dream about this. Therefore, the massiveness of the March 25 actions can be taken for granted.

- Apparently, the authorities advertised the opposition action once again. This is the way it happened before the Squares 2006 and 2010. However, today the situation is completely different!

- Lukashenka’s rating is as low as never before. Belarus is in the dynamic situation of the authority change, and, whether some people like it or not, the former Belarusian political prisoners and prisoners of conscience will come to the state power in Belarus. Today, the state power is seized by a gang of vertukhais. Lukashenka used to be a prison guard in some Belarusian penal colony. As for Shunevich, let’s not talk about him, everything about him is just so clear. A vertukhai with many years of experience Pavel Yakubovich remains the main ideologist of the regime. The rule of vertukhais in Belarus is coming to an end.

- Will political prisoners be able to rule the country better?

- As shown by the experience of several our neighbouring countries, they can do it. For example, in Poland, three presidents out of five were victims of political repressions - Lech Valensa, Lech Kaczinski and Bronislaw Komorowski. The President of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic was the famous playwright and former political prisoner Vaclav Havel. Just compare the standard of living in the countries where the vertukhais rule, and the countries where former prisoners of conscience rule. Leaders who went to prison for their convictions understand the pain and aspirations of ordinary people better. In addition, they do not invent any special Asiopian path for the development of the state, but simply strive to make life as in Europe, preserving their own identity.

I think that Belarus is lucky to have such a leader as Mikalai Statkevich. The man spent almost 8 years in various prisons, colonies, and penal servitude. At some point in history, it is such a leader who takes responsibility and raises the country from its knees. Besides, an excellent team has come to the Belarusian National Congress - they are able to unite people, attract professionals and carry out reforms in Belarus.
