Former Ambassador Of Poland In Minsk: Belarusian Army Is Part Of Russian One
Leszek Sherepka

Lukashenka will let Russian tanks to be located on the Bug.

The former ambassador of Poland in Belarus Leszek Sherepka said this in an interview with Belsat channel.

– This week, the film "White Legion of Black Souls", where they directly accused Poland and Ukraine of preparing "terrorists", attracted special attention. Should Poland officially respond to such accusations?

– I think, yes. However, it is not the first time when Minsk sounds such accusations towards Poland. I remember Lukashenka's interview with Savik Shuster. Immediately after the events in Ukraine, he said that the Poles also prepared "terrorists" and "militants".

Lukashenka traditionally considers us those who prepare "terrorists". I think that this is because the Belarusian authorities perceive Poland in a certain way. Such totalitarian regimes always need an enemy. Poland fits perfectly for this role duet to its position, history, specific relations with Russia.

I think that Lukashenko often uses this reason. I wonder if he used it now. Maybe it follows from current relationships with Russia, which have been not so good lately. It was about the presentation, where they said that they had a more serious opponent and they needed to stick together. And Belarus is kind of an outpost of Russia.

– Does Lukashenka use it himself, or are those the security-service chiefs who rallied around him?

– I don’t know, I can’t say it for sure, but there has always been a struggle between the security-service chiefs and economic institutions in Belarus which were more interested in liberalization. But it was easy to notice this struggle by following the border policy. For example, the Ministry of Sport was concerned to ensure that wealthy tourists from abroad would not be issued visas. And the security ministers have always tried to block visa-free travels to Belarus.

– One of the experts, Mikhail Patotsky, says that Aliaksandr Lukashenka can guarantee that Russian tanks will not be on the Bug. Does Poland really believe that Lukashenka can save it from the Russian invasion?

– Maybe someone believes this, but I'm saying in my book, which we once talked about, that in my opinion, the modern Belarusian army is part of the Russian army. And it fits perfectly into the defensive doctrine or even the aggressive doctrine that Moscow uses.

– So, it doesn’t really matter if these are Belarusian tanks or Russian ones?

– Also, in my opinion, Lukashenka will have no opportunity to not to let the Russian tanks locate on the Bug.
