‘European Belarus’ Activist Leanid Kulakou Fined Again

Judge Dzmitry Tsykal fined the activist for $ 600 for the action in the defense of Kurapaty.

On April 21, the Pershamaiski district court of Minsk considered the administrative case of the activist of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Leanid Kulakou. He was accused of participating in an unauthorized mass event - a rally on the protection of the Kurapaty development area, which took place on February 25, according to the Human Rights Center "Viasna".

Judge Dzmitry Tsykal found Kulakou guilty of having violated Part 3 of Article 23.34 of the Administrative Code and fined him for 50 base fees – Bn 1150, or $ 600.

On April 26, Leanid Kulakou is expecting a new trial. This time, the Pershamaiski district court will consider the case of restrictions of the right to drive a vehicle. This possibility is provided for in the legislation with regard to those who have unpaid fines.

Important to note, on April 19, Leanid Kulakou was released after 25 days of detention in the center for Isolation of law-breakers in the Akrestsin street. During this time, employees of enforcement authorities confiscated his car as partial repayment of previous pending fines.
