Vetka Prepared For Lukashenka's Visit For Four Months

The dog and pony show doesn’t solve the acute social problems of the inhabitants of the district center.

On April 26, the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, the leaders of Belarus and Ukraine will visit the nuclear power plant, after which they will hold negotiations on the territory of our country.

On the same day, Lukashenka is also waited for in Vetka, a town in Homel region, which suffered from radiation. The town has been preparing for the arrival of the guest, who will stay there for several hours, for 4 months, Belsat reports.

Wherever the dictator’s foot is to "step on", roads, sidewalks, fences appear in an emergency order, and houses acquire a new look.

However, Vetka residents can only dream about such a salary, which was promised to the workers engaged in the improvement of the city. However, they can only dream about work, too:

"It's hard to find work. Many enterprises have been closed, there are many unemployed, many people and young people have education, but there is no work."

"They shut everything down, there is no work at all. There’s unemployment".

Live in the contaminated area, eat radioactive food

In order to encourage people to live and work in contaminated regions, the head of state on the anniversary of the Chernobyl accident travels annually to the settlements that were badly damaged during the disaster.

The authorities remembered about the town Vetka only 31 years after the Chernobyl disaster. But have the residents of Vetka, one of the most heavily affected regional centers, been waiting for this kind of attention for their problems for that long?
