Prosecutor General’s Office: No Rehabilitation For Larysa Heniush
LARYSA HENIUSH

The activists received a categorical “no” from the authorities.

Today the activists of the BPF Youth received a response from the Prosecutor General's Office to their written request to rehabilitate Belarusian poet and public figure Larysa Heniush. The Prosecutor General's Office refused, Belsat said.

The letter, signed by prosecutor of the department Mr. Klebanau, says that “Larysa Heniush has been considered not applicable for rehabilitation”.

The idea to seek rehabilitation for Larysa Heniush came to activists last year, and they launched a campaign # Heniush2016, within which they collected more than 1200 signatures, visited the poet's homeland in Zelva, demanded to raise a monument to her and include the poet’s works into the school program.

«The very fact that the Prosecutor General's Office refused us clearly demonstrates the essence of the current government. It remains so very Soviet , despite the failed attempts of the mild Belarusization which it uses as a cover. They refused a year ago, and now,” – Chairman of the BPF Youth Yury Lukashevich believes.

According to Lukashevich, the rehabilitation of Heniush is only a part of a large campaign planned by the activists.

"The next step will be the requirement to open the archive files of all those who suffered from the repression in Soviet times. Many Belarusian cultural figures were repressed, shot. Of course, the opening of archives should be a serious political decision. But at this stage, Larysa Heniush could be rehabilitated ... ", - Lukashevich said.

On May 13, a movie “Invictus”, dedicated to the famous poet, will be shown at the BPF office in Minsk. In the film, rare photos will be shown, unique audio recordings will be played.
