Pavel Sevyarynets: The Regime Tries to Create a Preudo-Opposition

Fake opposition is aimed at deception of Europeans.

Pavel Sevyarynets, one of the leaders of the Organizing Committee on creation of the Belarusian Cristian Democracy Party, informed Charter97.org.

- Pavel, you have become a real "record-breaker" of this protest spring. In less than three months you spent almost 40 days behind bars. What were conditions there?

- It can be described as the order aimed at political prisoners. While the isolation center was half empty, we were in an overcrowded prison ward. I had to share it with the homeless. When a prisoner has lice, he is placed in another prison ward, then cleansed, but this time these norms've been violated. The only ground for it is to revenge for the May Day action. During cold days windows were open, there was no opportunity to write a complaint.

I contacted Vyachyslau Siuchyk, he also said that he suffered inhuman conditions, and he was not allowed to see a lawyer either . Pressure is put on all political prisoners.

- Why do you think some organizations like Tell the Truth are registered, and someone like, for example, you, like activists of the European Belarus civil campaign Jauhen Afnahel and Maksim Vinyarski, Vyachyslau Siuchyk, patriots who are now in the KGB pre-trial detention center, face real repressive campaign?

- Those who really resist the regime will always be persecuted. The nature of the regime is repressive and illegal. As for the registered organizations, they are created to deceive Europeans and gullible Belarusians. There are attempts either to create fake structures or to support already existing forces who are ready to accept the collaboration. The existence of such structures who serve the regime's interests works in its favor. The creation of such "screens" is not new. The same Haidukevich claims that his party is an opposition one, there are other registered parties, which we only hear about in the reports of Yarmoshyna. Therefore, when looking at recent events, it can be said that's one up for their side. The regime follows the campaign on creation of the preudo-opposition.

- How could you comment on an ambiguous reaction of Europe during protests in Belarus?

- It is hard to say. For us, Europe is an example of Christian values, when the law is violated, we are waiting for the reaction of Europeans. Indeed, Europe renders great support, for example, the European People's Party. At the same time, we have many questions to our partners. When Europeans finance the regime, they give money for the construction of special detention centers, the purchase of paddy wagons, and undisguised repressions against opponents of the regime happen there. The question arises: what diplomats are doing, what kind of dialogue it is and why the money of the European taxpayers is spent on support of the Lukashenka regime.
