The court fined the independent journalist from Homel for $420.

Judge of the Homel district court Aliaksandr Suslo punished freelance journalist Larysa Shchyrakova with a fine in the amount of 35 base fees – Bn 805, or $ 420 in the equivalent, for a live stream in the internet, the HR center “Viasna” informs.

On May 19, Judge of the Homel district court Aliaksandr Suslo, basing on the police report, found Larysa Shchyrakova guilty of having made illegal media products for Belsat TV channel.

According to the information provided by the monitoring service of the PA “Belarusian Association of Journalists”, the cause for the fine was the live-stream in the internet of a May Day action in Homel, which had been sanctioned by the city executive committee.

In the police report, the so-called offence committed by the journalist is worded in the following way: “conducted publication of videos with interviews of the citizens for the “Objective” TV program on Belsat TV”.
