Alexander Morozov: Belarusians Are To Become New Europeans Easily With Lukashenka’s Resignation
ALEXANDER MOROZOV

Famous Russian Lithuanian-based political scientist Alexander Morozov shared his impressions of the trip to Belarus.

According to him, he experienced an "entirely new perception" when he crossed the border of Lithuania and Belarus.

According to him, having entered Belarus from the European Union, that is, from Lithuania, "you get into some kind of "Russia", but at that Morozov believes that the Belarusians are hospitable, calm and benevolent people, completely ready for integration to Europe. According to Morozov it cannot be said about the Russians. If the Belarusians can easily become new Europeans with Lukashenka’s resignation, then the Russians wouldn’t be able to do it, in case the situation in the country changes.

"I have repeatedly entered Belarus from Russia. And it was my first time to enter from Lithuania. And I experienced some completely new perception. It is very difficult to describe it. These Russian-speakers are not Russian, but rather like Czechs by temper and temperament – that is, very calm, hospitable, benevolent Slavic people, completely ready for integration into Europe.

That is, they are simply ordinary European people, like the Czechs or even the Poles. And here a sudden feeling pierces you: you realize that when Lukashenka resigns, these Belarusians can sooner find themselves in Europe than the Russians with Putin’s resignation. To be more precise, Belarusians may turn out to become new Czechs, and Russians – they never will. Then I was thinking about this impression for a long time. I remember well that such an impression on me was made by Vologda region and its population. These Vologda region residents, as soon as the power changes, easily take on any form. They easily enter the Euroformat. And at the same time, when you remember not less Russian Belgorod region, you clearly understand that it is the same story, only on the contrary – the power changes, and these Belgorodians remain – it is difficult to describe, – somewhat Soviet, not suitable for the Euroformat.

In general, these are all very complicated, but acute impressions that a Belarusian can become a European even tomorrow, the obstacle lies in this temporary power, but with the Russians – it is much more difficult," – Morozov says.
