Belarusian Plane Violates Lithuanian Airspace Twice

Minsk will receive a note of protest.

The Belarusian An-2 plane violated the airspace of Lithuania on Wednesday, Vilnius declares.

As the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on Thursday, the plane was in the airspace of Lithuania at 14: 03-14: 07 and at 14.14-14.17. The violation was recorded by means of monitoring the air space of the Air Force of Lithuania and visually, Interfax reports.

Lithuanian state border guard service starts pre-trial investigation on the illegal crossing of the state border.

In the meantime, as the Lithuanian Foreign Minister's press attaché Rasa Jakilajtenė told to BNS, on Thursday, a note will be sent to the Charge d'Affaires of Belarus in Lithuania regarding this incident.

Public Relations Officer of the Air Force Headquarters of Lithuania, Senior Lieutenant Audrius Ašmontas stated to BNS that that was the first violation of Lithuanian airspace this year.

According to the officer, the incident was reported to the contingent carrying out the mission of the NATO air police. It was ready to react, but the violation was short, so theку was no reason to go up into the air. According to Audrius Ašmontas, there were attempts to establish a connection with the plane, but it appeared to have no transponder.
