The "house of representatives" is a sham body of the dictatorship.

Former deputy of the Supreme Council of Belarus Liavon Barshcheuski told that to Radio Racyja:

– In general, I think that it is necessary to reduce globally the salaries in the administrative bodies. Including the salaries of "deputies", which should be linked to certain ratios and to the average salaries paid throughout the country. And this will be the right thing to do. And if there were a reduction in Lukashenka’s administration and the government’s funding, it can only be welcomed. All branches of power should get approximately the same salary, and not that someone gets a high salary, and someone’s salary is reduced. It is necessary to carry out optimization in all the structures.

– The salaries of today's deputies have been announced in the media – more than $ 1,000 per month. Or, do the people’s delegates really earn the keep?

– Of course, they don’t, because this "parliament" does not decide anything as a matter of fact. But, if the average salary were $ 800 in Belarus, then the "deputy" could get a thousand. That would be normal.

– And in your times, in the 90s, how much did the Supreme Council deputies earn?

– The salaries of the Chairman of the Standing Committee roughly corresponded to the salary of the Minister. It is normal to synchronize the salaries of the executive and legislative branches. But then, the Supreme Soviet was the legislative body, which really made state decisions in the country. It was not a sham.
