Belarus’ Ambassador To Russia Announced About His Intention To Buy Iskander Complexes

Complexes are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 500 km.

In the future, Belarus may consider buying Iskander missile systems in Russia. This was stated by the Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Ihar Piatryshenka, RBC reports.

Piatryshenka reminds that now the S-300 system remains the main anti-aircraft missile system in Belarus. In the future, Belarus may buy both S-400 air defense systems for airspace protection and Iskander missile systems.

"Deliveries of S-400 complexes and Iskander tactical missile systems may be considered taking into account the appearance of new weapons with improved characteristics. We expect that in the future, Su-30SM of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense troops will protect the air borders of the "union state", – Piatryshenka says.

In May, commander of the Air Force and the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Major-General Aleh Dvihaliou said that Belarus intended to purchase a consignment of Su-30SM fighters in Russia. He also talked about Minsk’s plans of purchasing Yak-130 training aircrafts.

The operational-tactical missile system Iskander was put into service by the Russian army in 2006. It is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 500 km, avoiding anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense systems. At the same time, the missiles of the complex can be equipped with both a non-nuclear and a nuclear detrimental part. Earlier, in June 2016, general director of the state corporation Rostek Sergei Chemezov said that Iskander was on the list of products banned for export, and Russia did not intend to sell the complex to other countries.
