Siarhei Kuntsevich: Our Solidarity Freed Political Prisoners Repeatedly
SIARHEI KUNTSEVICH

Mikalai Statkevich’s associate has called to come to Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk, on June 22, at 18.00.

The activist of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) Siarhei Kuntsevich, a "patriots' case" defendant, who came out of the KGB jail, wrote about that on the website of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party socdemparty.org.

"Friends! June 22, 18:00, Kastrychnitskaya Square. Let’s not leave our own behind!

Three days ago I left prison. In the first place, I came out thanks to solidarity, thanks to the pressure on the regime, thanks to the fact that you were demanding the release of political prisoners. I thank you for your support.

Despite the fact that some of the Belarusian patriots are already at large, there are 14 people detained on the eve of Freedom Day, who are still behind bars. In addition, Dzmitry Palienka and Mikhail Zhamchuzhny are in prison. Spring protest Brest leaders Andrei Sharenda and Palina Panasiuk-Sharenda are under the threat of criminal prosecution. Pressure is being put on other opposition activists.

The only force that the regime is afraid of is the people, that is –all of us. More than once our solidarity has helped us to insist successfully on the release of political prisoners. I am sure that it will be the same again. Together, we will be able to draw nearer the day of the patriots’ release out of jail and stop the repressions.

The best way to demonstrate our solidarity with those behind bars on political charges is street rallies.

On June 22, a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Central and Eastern Europe will be held in Minsk. This day suits well not only to appeal to the Belarusian authorities, but also to convey the information about the situation in Belarus to our neighbors.

I suggest to come to Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk on Friday, June 22, at 18:00, and demand the release of political prisoners and termination of persecution for political reasons, and also call on European countries to put pressure on Lukashenka and make him respect his own people."
