Leanid Zlotnikau: We Are Watching Agony of Lukasheka’s System

Any attempt of "modernization" ends only with the growth of external debts.

This was stated to Solidarity by Doctor of Economic Sciences Leanid Zlotnikov, estimating 23 years of Lukashenka's rule.

Lukashenka remained faithful to the model of the economy, which he made up in his promises, - economist Leanid Zlotnikau believes. "He promised to establish control over prices, to restore ties with the former Soviet republics - and he remained faithful to his promises.

We see the result of this fidelity, this populist approach. The attempt to build a model of socialism ended in the same failure that in all other countries. And now we see the collapse of his system. It is inefficient and unpromising, and all attempts of modernization end only with the growth of external debts.

The example of Belarus once again confirmed that the attempt to organize the command economy in a country is disastrous. I'm afraid that for a few more years we will observe the agony of this system.
