On July 8, the Primorsky District Court chose a pre-trial measure in the form of detention for the 37-year-old man, at the request of the prosecutor's office of the Odesa region.

An active participant of the riots of May 2, 2014, who had been hiding from the investigation, was detained in Odesa. As reported by unian.net with a reference to the press-center of the prosecutor's office of the Odesa region, the attacker, who was hiding from the investigation under a different name outside Ukraine, was found and detained last week at the house of a relative living in Odesa. At the request of the prosecutor's office of the Odesa region, the Primorsky District Court chose the pre-trial measure in the form of detention for the 37-year-old man on July 8.

During the investigation it was established that the detainee, having covered his face with a mask-balaclava and a helmet, took an active part in the riots in the Greek Square on May 2, 2014. A man is informed he is suspected under Part 2 of Art. 294 (mass riots that led to the death of people) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. As UNIAN was informed by an informed source in the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, the detainee is a citizen of Belarus.

Reference: On May 2, 2014, 48 people were killed and about 300 people were injured in Odesa as a result of mass riots involving pro-Russian and pro-Ukrainian activists. Clashes broke out in the city center, where several people were shot. Then pro-Ukrainian activists came to the Kulikovo field, where the tent camp of separatists was located. The tents caught fire, a fire broke out in the House of Trade Unions, in which people also died.
