The political prisoner’s lawyer came to a planned meeting, but did not find his client.

On July 13, Mikhail Zhamchuzhny's lawyer came to his client for a planned meeting at the correctional colony No. 11 in Vaukavysk, where the political prisoner had been kept since April of this year, after being transferred from the colony in Navasady. Unexpectedly, it turned out that Zhamchuzhny was not in the colony.

An administration representative told the lawyer that since July 10, the political prisoner had been transferred to the colony No. 9, which is located in Horki. At the same time, the administration representative could not explain the reasons for Zhamchuzhny’s transfer, referring only to the fact that it was the order of the Department for the Execution of Punishments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the website spring96.org informs.

According to him, Zhamchuzhny was transferred for further serving of punishment. It must be added that the Horki colony is notorious for its harsh conditions of detention.

In the near future, the lawyer will try to find out the circumstances of the political prisoner’s unexpected transfer to another place of serving the sentence.

In July 2015, the founder of the Innovation Platform, Mikhail Zhamchuzhny, was convicted by the Vitsebsk regional court and sentenced to six years in a strict regime prison. On October 23, the Supreme Court's judicial panel on criminal cases considered his appeal and appointed Zhamchuzhny a more severe punishment – six and a half years of imprisonment.

He was found guilty of committing crimes under Art. 376 (Parts 1 and 2), Part 5 of Art. 16, Art. 375 (Part 1) and Art. 431 (Parts 1 and 2): the incitement to the deliberate disclosure of information constituting official secret; multiple Illegal acquisition and sale of special technical means of receiving information secretly; giving bribes multiply.

Belarusian human rights defenders recognize Mikhail Zhamchuzhny as a political prisoner.
