Three Of Five European Parliament Delegation Deputies Belong To Pro-Russian Movements

On July 18-19, the delegation of the European Parliament will be in Minsk.

At its head – Pole Bogdan Zdraevsky, is a member of the European People's Party faction. But, what is interesting, three of the five delegation members belong to the pro-Russian parties of the Baltic countries, nn.by writes.

The delegation includes Tatyana Zhdanok from Latvia – she is from the Green Party, but in Latvia she used to assume radical pro-Russian attitude within the movement For Human Rights In Consolidated Latvia.

Another delegation member is also from Latvia, Andrei Momynkin from the center-left party Soglasie, predominantly representing the interests of the Russian-speaking population.

And delegate Valdemar Tomashevsky is from the Selective Action of the Poles of Lithuania. This structure carries out activities in alliance with organizations of the Russian-speaking minority and has uneasy relations with the authorities of Lithuania.

The fifth delegate is a Christian Democrat from Germany, Michael Galler.

The delegation will hold meetings with the government and "parliament", as well as with representatives of civil society and the opposition.

The European Parliament does not directly influence the decisions of the EU countries or the current activities of the European Commission, but it plays a significant advisory and symbolic role.
