MIA Supports Initiative On Selling Alcohol To Those Over 21

The Ministry of Health came up with this initiative earlier.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs supports the initiative to introduce age restrictions for selling alcoholic beverages to 21 years, according to the Chief Administration of the Public Order Protection and Prophylactic of the Public Security Police of the MIA.

— We support the initiative to allow selling alcohol to those over 21, not 18 as before, — they said in the MIA.

The Ministry of Health came up with this initiative earlier.

Important to note, according to WHO, in 2016 there was 16,4 liters of alcohol per person in our country, and this is the second largest in the world after Lithuania. According to Belstat, last year we had 8,8 liters per capita.

The Ministry of Health believes that the opportunity to buy alcoholic drinks by young people over the age of 18 leads to a 25-fold increase in numbers of those who are under the narcologists’s supervision because of alcohol dependence at the age of 18 to 21 years, compared to the number of such persons under the age of majority.

As practice shows, alcoholic beverages and beer at night are mostly sold to drunken citizens and youth, which leads to their consumption in public places and becomes the root cause of committing grave and extremely severe crimes against life and health.

According to the results of the first half of 2017, of the total number of adults who committed crimes in a state of intoxication, citizens aged 18-20 years make 4,8%. At the same time, of the total number of all adult citizens of the country, persons of the specified age make less than 3,6%.
