BNС Rada Demands Release Of Political Prisoners

The authorities must immediately stop the persecution of participants in peaceful protests.

The statement of the BNC Rada, adopted on July 21, says this.

Here is the text of the document:

– Trials of participants of the rally of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners that took place on June 22, were held in the Tsentralny District Court of Minsk on July 20. Maksim Viniarski, Leanid Kulakou and Volha Nikalaichyk were arrested for 10 - 15 days, Artsem Charniak, Mikalai Lohvinau and Mikita Krasnakutski were charged with huge fines. Some hearings were held in absence of the accused, and sentences were based on false testimonies of police witnesses.

Judges Viktoryia Shabunia and Ivan Kastsian, who previously had repeatedly participated in reprisals against opposition activists, made illegal decisions about arrests and fines.

In the near future, we can expect new trials of the participants of the action "For Peaceful Belarus," which took place on July 3 and 7. Police stations have already summoned some of the participants for drawing up protocols against them.

The Rada of the BNC demands that the Belarusian authorities should immediately release and rehabilitate all political prisoners and stop persecuting participants of peaceful protests. The BNC also urges the international community to put pressure on Lukashenka's regime in order to achieve the protection of human rights and respect for the citizens of the country.
