Policeman Shot Accused In His Back

Policeman Shot Accused In His Back
ANDREI HAUROSH

The details of the case of the Minsker, wounded by a policeman on New Year's Day, have leaked out.

Andrei Haurosh, who hardly died on New Year's Eve, is today in the dock. He is tried for "resistance to the police with the use of violence," Belsat reports.

First of all, the Maskouski district court listened to the policeman

Ruslan Salauyou, who shot that night, the investigation considers the victim. According to the defendant's lawyer, some of the MIA officer’s testimonies were significantly different from the previous version. He was confused in the number of shots. Now Salauyou admits that there was no warning shot.

"It can be seen that he was taught what to say. In the first words, these were testimonies of what he had seen and could remember, but now he is saying what he has been ordered to. He is confusing the whole investigation," – activist Miraslau Matskevich shares his observations.

Andrei Haurosh does not admit his guilt

The incident in one of the houses in Liubimau Street in Minsk occurred on 1 January. The policeman turned up at the threshold of the apartment 73. The reason for the visit was a call from the neighbors who complained about the noise.

According to Ruslan Salauyou, drunk Andrei came out to him and started to beat him. Then he tried to get hold of the police weapon. In response, the policeman made three shots. Two of them wounded Haurosh seriously. The police officer's tesrimonies, however, raise questions.

"A wound in the back has been declared. How can you shoot in the back, when somebody is holding your hands, while you are shooting? Nothing is clear," –public activist Aliaksandr Maksimenia says.

The witnesses voiced another version

Immediately after the incident, Belsat talked to the young people who were in the same apartment with Andrei Haurosh and neighbors. "It was quiet, we were celebrating the new year, like normal people. Nobody was making noise," – neighbor Kiryl testified then.

"Andrei was adequate, calm, balanced. There could be no aggression on his part," – Andrei Haurosh’s friend Aliaksandr recalls.

The incident has raised numerous questions to the police

It is known that Ruslan Salauyou was not supposed to use firearms. If a conflict was actually tooking place, the policeman could use a pepper spray canister. However, as it turned out at the trial, the device had been out of order. Where was the baton? In the office, as it was the only one for the entire shift. Another thing is: why, after doing a special training course, the law-enforcer failed to neutralize the potential hooligan, and became a victim himself? And, after all, why was he without a partner? Most likely, there will be no answers to these questions.

The ruler defends policeman Ruslan Salauyou

"What did this guy do wrong?" This is his right. He has a wide choice: either he uses weapons, or starts to fight. Having evaluated the situation, he used weapons. In the end, he did not kill him. This is a signal to the public that there will be no tolerance towards the scums," – the ruler of Belarus reacted to the incident.

And therefore it is not difficult to foresee what will be the end result of this high-profile trial.
