The command of the Russian Federation is deploying too many troops in Belarus.

First head of independent Belarus Stanislau Shushkevich said that in the TV program Gordon on the 112 Ukraine channel.

"From Russia we can expect anything. The question is – why is in hell Russia conducting exercises in small Belarus, when the Russian vast expanse is so great? Why are they bringing so many troops? This show of force, this demonstration will not fail, because the West has shown that it will set against some forces, too. Provocations are impossible here," – he said.

According to Shushkevich, provocation against Ukraine "are difficult to plan" today considering the current state of the Ukrainian Army in comparison with the period of the Crimea’s annexation.

The Russian-Belarussian exercises West-2017 will start on the territory of Belarus in September. A record number of rail cars — more than 4 thousand — was involved to transfer the Russian contingent. Many politicians and military experts believe that Russian troops will remain in Belarus after the exercises.

The exercises will involve a number of military training ranges in Belarus: near Lepel, Barysau, Vitsebsk, Asipovichy, Ruzhany and Damanava. It is also reported that some raids are planned on the "sector of the terrain" near Dretun.

The Prevention Rally demanding the cancellation of the exercises West-2017 took place at Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk on September 8.
