Lithuania will block the import of electricity from the Astravets nuclear power plant.

Last week, the Lithuanian government presented a plan on the issue. "The construction of a nuclear power plant near the borders of Lithuania is a serious problem for all of us. This is the issue of the security of our people, and we must act decisively to protect the interests of our people. We approved the enforcement of security measures in order to prevent the supply of electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the Lithuanian market," – Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said, BelHazeta reports.

There are several basic measures in the plan. First, to make sure that after the launch of the Astravets nuclear power plant, Belarusian electricity could not reach Lithuania, except for the amount needed to ensure the reliability of the Lithuanian energy system. The developers will ensure that the capacity of the Kruonis Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Plant is not used to store electricity from the BelNPP.

In addition, Lithuania expects to synchronize its energy system with the networks of EU countries before 2025, after which the supply of electricity from third countries will be technically impossible without special expensive adapters mounted at the border.
