Sviatlana Komlik: I'm Waiting And I Believe In My Husband

Sviatlana Komlik: I'm Waiting And I Believe In My Husband
IHAR AND SVIATLANA KOMLIK

The wife of political prisoner Ihar Komlik told about her brave husband.

More than a month and a half, every day Sviatlana Komlik has been waiting for news from her husband, trade union activist and chief accountant of REP Ihar Komlik.

He was accused of evading taxes in a particularly large amount and was put behind the bars of the pre-trial detention center No. 1 for the time of the investigation, the HRC Viasna reports.

Although, not everything can be written on paper so that the letter could leave the gloomy walls of Valadarka at the behest of the censor. But anyway, every letter from behind the bars is excitement, anxiety and hope. And it happens that it’s joy. That's how most recently it was.

"Ihar got the timing right and I received a letter of congratulations just on my birthday: there was a poem specially written for me and a drawing of flowers," – Sviatlana shares her impressions. "He can somehow always guess the day.

I remember, at the beginning of our acquaintance, – we were still not married then – I went on a hiking trip to the Caucasus and when I returned to Minsk, I did not even expect Ihar to meet me, and he did not know exactly when I was to return, I did not even know how he had guessed the time. Even my parents did not know when I was coming back. I was very impressed. He saw me off on my way there, and then he met me."

A congratulatory letter from Ihar Komlik to his wife.

Now Sviatlana Komlik is retired and spends a lot of time at the family dacha near Radashkovichy. It is difficult to cope with the plot without the husband, but it is even more difficult to take the restraint of the closed one with whom she has been wending her way through life shoulder to the shoulder for 33 years. But Sviatlana believes in the best and it gives her the strength to wait.

I ask on meeting this friendly and, apparently, previously very cheerful woman: how did they meet with Ihar Komlik, how did their life as a couple begin?

– How did he propose to me? Well, thereby hangs a tale. The whole design bureau in the production association Planar, where I was working at that time, was concerned about me, and whole Ihar’s department – about him, and all because I had other admirers, but Ihar really wanted to become the only one. And he tried to succeed it in every possible way, and when he used to come to see me he presented me with some flowers, or with the first strawberry, or with a chocolate bar, in short, he always met me with some kind of surprise.

At one time we were together in the Komsomol Committee: he was a factory representative, and I am a design bureau one, it allowed us to get acquainted closer, to maintain friendly relations. I remember, once we were preparing together with him an April Fool's humorous party, then I was in charge of the culture, the preparation of various evenings. It brought us closer. And then...

In my youth I loved to go hiking, I had to train, and Ihar helped me, he used to come in the morning before work, and we went jogging together, then we went to work. And so, little by little, we ran ourselves to the point of marriage, – Sviatlana smiles.

– When I turned 25, Ihar brought 25 carnations and presented me with a watch. I was thinking then to accept it or not. If to take it, then it binds to something. I was thinking and decided: yes, it seemed to be serious, and the guy was also good. When he asked me to marry him – I agreed without thinking, since before that I had already thought about it a lot.

What is he at home? Sviatlana gives it no thought:

– Ihar is always attentive to me, and to his son Andrei, and to his grandchildren ... We have two of them, and the kids are very fond of Grandpa, they are waiting for him.

Sviatlana Komlik says that the husband is not very demanding: whatever is cooked at home is good. But if there is free time, he loves cooking himself, and he does it with feeling. He has his favorite recipes, bakes cakes, and does everything with love.

We remind that on September 15, the court of Partyzanski district considered Ihar Komlik’s complaint on the pre-trial restrictions – the detention in custody. He asked in the complaint to change the pre-trial restrictions, since he believes that it was applied to him without foundation and there is no need to keep him in custody during the investigation.

However, the judge decided that the pre-trial restrictions were chosen lawfully and reasonably, since Ihar Komlik was accused of a "serious" crime. She left the decision of the Deputy Prosecutor General unchanged, and the complaint was not satisfied.

And all that is left to do for Sviatlana Komlik is to wait. To wait and believe that common sense will prevail and the case will crumble like an autumn rot.
