Mikalai Dziadok: Not Only Legal But Also Moral Victory Is Important For Me
Mikalai Dziadok

The other day the activist "received a very unexpected document."

The Investigative Committee of Pershamaiski district of Minsk refused to open a criminal case on beating Mikalai Dziadok by the riot police on March 25, but the prosecutor's office canceled the refusal.

We remind that ex-political prisoner Mikalai Dziadok was detained and beaten during the Freedom Day, he was taken to hospital by ambulance from the police department. According to the results of the medical report, he received a closed craniocerebral injury and spent four days in the hospital. From the hospital he was taken to the court of Partyzanski district, where he was sentenced to 10 days of arrest.

After that, Mikalai Dziadok sent a complaint to the IC against the actions of law enforcement officers demanding to institute criminal proceedings against them, but the Investigative Committee refused to do so.

However, not long ago Mikalai Dziadok "received a very unexpected document".

"As you know, the Investigative Committee refused to initiate criminal proceedings against the riot policemen. And the prosecutor's office, as it turned out, canceled that refusal, – he wrote on his Facebook page. – So, the check goes on."

– It seems to me that the canceling of the refusal is, most likely, some kind of a template gesture that does not oblige to anything, but allows the structure to "save its face", – Mikalai Dziadok told the palitviazni.info site. – The significance of this gesture is small – I'm not even sure that the prosecutor's office has received the order from above. As far as I remember, such cases have already occurred, but they did not lead to anything. Therefore, by no means, it is a formality.

– Do not believe in objectivity of the reconsideration of the case?

– I do not believe in it, because it is principally important for the state to demonstrate the impunity of its ministers – for everyone to be afraid. And also it cannot create a precedent, because if one complaint is satisfied and the riot policemen are brought to justice, then such complaints will come down in torrents. But, no matter what, I will appeal against decision to the end. I will even appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee, if necessary. After all, not only legal, but also moral victory is important for me. In addition, the regime is not eternal. The time will come and everyone will pay for everything.
