Prices Strike With Their Groundless Assuredness

"Cutting off zeros" on the bills had its negative consequences.

The poet and journalist Dzmitry Rastaeu shared his impressions of food prices and compared them to those that were before the denomination:

"I feel disgusting going to the markets today – the prices put me off not so much by their size but by groundless assuredness. The price of a kilogram of bad Belarusian apples having the size of a walnut has never been 20 thousand rubles in autumn. I remember they were giving them away as cheap as for one thousand rubles – and even then, no one wanted to buy them. A small bunch of dill for 5 thousand and a big bunch for 10 thousand – how could be this possible? Last year you could buy a small bunch for 500 rubles and you could buy a bunch as big as a whole "bush" for 3 thousands.

So what should be blamed for this? Denomination? Crop failure? Lack of conscience of the merchants? I am at a complete loss."

We remind, that on the eve of the denomination Lukashenka promised to "tear off heads" of his officials, if prices in Belarus will go up after "cutting off zeros" on bills.
