Pavel Sevyarynets: Our Generation Is Lucky to Live When the BPR Celebrates Its Centenary
Pavel Sevyarynets

The event planned for March 25 is a weighty national action.

Co-chairman of the organizing committee on the creation of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party, Pavel Sevyarynets, told the Charter97.org about the meaning of the celebration of the centenary of the BPR on March 25, Minsk.

- What does the day of proclamation of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic mean for the Belarusians?

-100 years ago, on March 25, 1918, Belarusians from different parties and groups joined together to defend the independence of our country. At that time it was the acme in the history of Belarus. All disputes receded into the background. Left and right parties, the military and peasants - they all demanded the independence of Belarus!

It was the moment of even supernatural unification of all people. The centenary of BPR is a significant date of restoration of statehood. Then, in 1918, the proclamation of independence was a great holiday of unity, which became a lighthouse, glowing through tough challenges, wars, the Soviet totalitarian regime. I am sure that this great date will belong to the ages. Our generation is incredibly lucky to live when the BPR celebrates its centenary. Hundreds of thousands of Belarusians will celebrate this day!

-Why do you think it’s important to take part in the event on this day?

-it is obvious that this year's Freedom Day should be celebrated. March 25 is aimed to show that we are neither afraid of the existing regime in the country, nor the empire.

We are dignified descendants of those people who proclaimed the independence of the Belarusian People's Republic 100 years ago.

Let the county is controlled by the regime for the third decade, and the empire has a grudge against us, we take the squares and streets to show that we do exist and the country will be ours in the end.

And as long as people take the streets - long live Belarus! The front line should pass through apartments.

Otherwise, they will rush into housed and зpull out of beds, as it used to be in 1937. Therefore, the participation in the event of March 25 is a significant national action for any Belarusian. Those who come to the square on March 25 will be heroes of the modern time. Therefore, I'd like to address the Belarusians: If you want to be a hero, come to the Square on 25 March!
