Democratic Forces Agreed On Joint Celebration Of BPR’s Anniversary

The Organizing Committee has called on the authorities to recognize Freedom Day as an official holiday.

Today, an extended meeting of the organizing committee for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Belarusian People's Republic has taken place in the office of the Belarusian Popular Front party in Minsk. Yauhen Afnahel, a coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign, one of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress has informed Charter97.org about it:

– Representatives of the majority of democratic parties and movements took part in the meeting: artists Mikola Kupava and Ales Marachkin, BNC leaders Uladzimir Niakliayeu and Mikalai Statkevich, co-chairmen of the organizing committee for the creation of the BCD party Pavel Seviarynets and Vital Rymasheuski, leader of the Movement for Freedom Yuras Hubarevich, Belarusian Popular Front head Ryhor Kostusey, United Civil Party chairman Anatol Liabedzka, leader of the solidarity movement Razam Viachaslau Syuchyk. In total, more than 30 people took part in the meeting of the organizing committee.

The participants of the meeting decided to hold a mass rally on March 25 in Minsk. It was unanimously agreed that the rally is to be held on this day. The Freedom Day celebration will start at Yakub Kolas Square at 14.00. After this, the procession will move along the roadway of Independence Avenue. I want to note that the absolute majority of the today's meeting participants voted precisely for a march along Independence Avenue, which is to end with a rally-concert at Freedom Square.

It was decided that an application for holding the rally will be submitted to the Minsk City Executive Committee. A number of issues were discussed. Among them: the appeal to the authorities to recognize the Freedom Day as an official holiday, tableting of memorial plaques related to the formation of the BPR and its history, and holding of festive concerts and events.

I am glad that representatives of all democratic forces understand the importance of celebrating Freedom Day, the importance of holding a mass demonstration on this day. I hope that the people present at the meeting and those who join the Freedom Day celebration will make the maximum contribution to the worthy event.

It was also decided to create a working group on conducting the rally as part of the organizing committee. The meeting of the working group will be held tomorrow at 4, Kulman street(the office of the REP trade union) at 14.00. All those who are ready to make a fair share of contribution to the celebration of Freedom Day are invited to the meeting.
