Car Stickers Against Battery Plant Appear In Brest

The yellow triangles were handed out in the places of collection of signatures for the abolishment of the battery plant construction.

The yellow triangles are the car stickers expressing negative attitude to the construction of the battery plant in the Free Economic Zone “Brest”, 4 kilometers away from the regional center.

According to the information provided to BG by the local activists of the campaign against the construction of this enterprise, the first batch of the stickers was out in the end of last week. On Sunday, January 21, the activists handed out the stickers in the places of signature collecting for the abolishment of the battery plant construction. It is worth mentioning that such pickets were organized in almost all the city districts on that day. However, the announced assembly near the market “Laguna” in Kavaliova didn’t happen, and one of the city residents, having failed to wait for the people with the signature sheets, specially came to the CUM store for them.

As of January 20, 13 thousand signatures were collected, on January 21 this figure crossed the threshold of 15 thousand. The collection of signatures continues.

Important to note, in early January a large-scale campaign was launched in Brest and Brest district against the construction of the I-Power battery plant, which had been started in the “Brest” Free Economic Zone. On January 15, a meeting with the residets was organized by the local activists in the Telma House of Culture. Officials and businessmen tried to convince the people that the plant was safe and that there were no violations at all the stages of the project’s coordination, but they failed.

The activists of the campaign, with the support of the city dwellers and the residents of the district, intend to continue to pursue at least suspension of the construction and conducting of repeated public discussions of the project not only among the residnets of the Brest district, but among the city dwellers as well. Now the preparation to further actions is going on actively.
