Vadzim Saranchukou: We Will Do Our Best To Ensure As Many People As Possible Celebrate 100th Anniversary Of BPR
VADZIM SARANCHUKOU

March 25 this year should be a marked in the format of a national holiday.

Leader of the Hrodna organization of the Belarusian Popular Front party Vadzim Saranchukou said this to the Charter97.org, commenting on the collective appeal of 14 Hrodna organizations to the city authorities with a proposal to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic together.

- A session of the Organizing Committee for the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic was held on Friday. And yesterday we handed over our collective appeal to the city authorities.

We have planned a number of festive events in Hrodna, including low-key meetings for the activists, and a street action. But the fact is that according to the decision of the head of the city council, mass actions in the central squares of the city can be organized only when the city administration acts as co-organizer. This is one of the things that motivated us to file an appeal.

And, of course, we also proceeded from the fact that it is impossible to “privatize” such an important date as March 25. It is necessary to try to involve as many people as possible to the celebration of the BPR 100th anniversary. So far, 14 Hrodna organizations have signed the appeal, but I hope that this list will continue to expand.

- Has there already been any reaction of the authorities to your appeal?

- So far there has been no reaction. They have officially 15 days to respond to the appeal.

- What are your further plans?

- The organizing committee for the preparation of a mass celebration is working. The appeal to the city authorities is only one part of the preparation. We are preparing other events.

If there is a positive response to our appeal, we will prepare the celebration in one format. If there is a refusal, which is very likely, we will decide on another form of holding the street event.

- And what does the day of proclaiming the independence of the BPR mean for you personally?

- For me it is primarily the Independence Day. I do not consider Belarus a young country, the history of which began in 1991. March 25 is the day when my country declared independence.

I will do my best to influence the celebration of March 25 to reach a new level.
