Weird Statement Of US Embassy In Minsk

The US Embassy announced its intention to seek removal of sanctions from the authorities of Belarus, having disregarded the blocking of the website Charter97.org.

The United States is interested in the sanctions to be lifted completely. Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the United States in Belarus Robert Riley stated this during the meeting with the Belarusian journalists, Euroradio reports.

“During all the meetings with representatives of all levels of the Belarusian government, I say that our interest is that these sanctions are completely abolished, but while we are not at that point in the relationship, we always openly talk about what steps should be taken. We will continue these discussions with our Belarusian counterparts, and we will do our best to come to the point where the cancellation of sanctions becomes possible.”

According to Robert Riley, such cancellation of sanctions will have an exceptionally positive result. After all, the existence of sanctions, albeit suspended, harms not only the image of Belarus, but also possible investments in the country.

According to the Charge d'Affaires, the next review of existing sanctions against the Belarusian enterprises is scheduled on April. They are reviewed every six months, and now they have been suspended for two years.
