Brest Residents At Square: “Police Are Occupants!”

The traditions of the Polish Solidarity were revived at the rally in Brest.

Opponents of the battery factory, which is under construction near the city of Brest, have held an unauthorized rally at Lenin Square in Brest, Radio Racyja reports.

About 120 people came to the square. A few days before, information with calls to come to the Square and give voice to the opinion was openly spread in social networks and specialized groups.

During the event, the police did not touch anyone, people could unfurl a banner with the inscription “Say No To The Battery Plant,” everyone could come forward and convey their own point of view to those present.

However, by the time the event started, the information about Dzmitry Bekaliuk’s detention had been received.

Among other things, the speakers recalled that all the attempts to organize a formal event had no success.

After the rally ended, the police arrested several people, including Mikalai Statkevich, who had come to Brest to support the protesters. Some of the people, following the example of the Polish Solidarity, proposed to go to the paddy wagon standing nearby.

At the same time, those people, who were at the square, were chanting “The Police Are Occupants!”.

By the evening, there were about 10 detainees in the police department, Dzmitry Bekaliuk, who had been detained earlier, was released. Siarhei Piatrukhin, Aliaksandr Kabanau, Vital Kozak, Uladzimir Maroz, Ryhor Pahartsau, Liudzmila Karcheuskaya, Dzmitry Andrasiuk, Raman Kisliak were among the detainees.
