The BNC leader told how he had to break off his tail when he was driving to Brest.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress Mikalai Statkevich left the temporary detention center in Brest, where he was serving 5 days of administrative arrest as punishment for participating in a protest action against the construction of a battery plant on October 14, Radio Liberty reports.

Several activists from among the opponents of the construction of the battery plant and the journalists came to meet Mikalai Statkevich to the detention facility of the Leninski district department of internal affairs in Brest.

Some of them were handed over the subpoena to the police department at the time of the next Sunday action. People were told that they should appear for explanations about their participation in the action on October 14.

“So, they probably want people not to go to the square on Sunday. Bloggers Piatrukhin and Kabanau are held in detention, the rest got subpoenas for Sunday, ” says independent journalist Yauhen Skrabets.

After his release, Mikalai Statkevich said that the detentions at the last rally were expected, and he had to “break away from the tail” in order to get from Minsk to Brest.

“I was expecting such a situation, because people were already fed up with feeding pigeons, they began to more firmly put forward their demands to the authorities, which responded,” Mikalai Statkevich said about the detentions for the action against the battery plant on October 14.

Mikalai Statkevich proposes Brest protesters to get together on November 9 and at the same time go to file complaints to Lukashenka in Minsk.

“If many people come with their complaints, the problem will move. After all, this is just a terrible situation - such production is being built near the 300 K city. This does not fit in my head, ”says Mikalai Statkevich.

Mikalai Statkevich took part in the action of opponents of the battery plant in Brest on October 14. During the rally, about 15 people were detained. Mikalai Statkevich and Brest bloggers Siarhei Piatrukhin and Aliaksandr Kabanau were sentenced to 5 days in detention. But Statkevich was sent to the detention center immediately, and the bloggers were sent to serve their sentences only on October 18.

The actions of the opponents of the battery plant take place in Brest every Sunday for several months. The outraged Brest residents are protesting against building a battery plant. People are afraid that the plant will harm their health and the environment.
