Another Opponent Of Battery Factory Construction Detained In Brest
DZIAMJAN LEPIASEVICH

Late in the evening of October 19, Dziamjan Lepiasevich was detained in Brest.

Activists report this with reference to Lepiasevich’s wife. According to her, the bus was waiting for the activist in the courtyard of their house. He was taken away from the apartment, without a summons, in front of two small children, Brest Newspaper writes.

As it became known at midnight, Dziamjan Lepiasevich will be kept in the detention center until Monday.

Yesterday afternoon, Lepiasevich took part in a press conference at which he and Dzmitry Bekaliuk spoke about the latest news regarding the fight against the plant.

Dziamjan Lepiasevich is a member of the initiative group, which seeks at least a suspension of the iPower plant construction near the regional center. For more than 9 months, activists have been reporting numerous violations at various stages of implementing the project of the battery plant construction.

Since early March, every Sunday, opponents of the plant have been coming to feed pigeons at Lenin Square in Brest in order to draw the authorities and the public’s attention to the situation around the plant.

At the end of April, the rally “Brest Women Against Lead” permitted by the authorities was held in the city. About 2,000 people took part in it. Since then, the city authorities have not granted any of the numerous applications filed for holding a rally or picket against the plant.

During the feeding of pigeons on October 14, a banner with an inscription against the plant was put up at Lenin Square for the first time, several people spoke loudly about the burning issue. That was followed by numerous detentions and trials of activists.
