Belarusian Lyceum Director Won Local Elections In Poland

More than seven thousand people voted for Ihar Lukashuk.

Ihar Lukashuk, the Director of the Hajnowka Lyceum, where instructions are performed in the Belarusian language, won the elections to the sejmik of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, receiving 7184 votes, Radio Racyja reports.

“First, many thanks to all of you! It is a great honor for me that so many people showed their attitude towards my candidacy. This is the success of all those who came to the polls, voted, promoted and helped in this election campaign. Such successes are not achieved independently, but only by the efforts of a large number of people,” – Ihar Lukashuk said.

Slawomir Nazaruk, the long-term adviser to Bialystok and another candidate who also represents the interests of the Belarusian minority in Podlasie, received 9641 votes. Both candidates were on the list of Civic Coalition.

Ihar Lukashuk – with the support of the Bielsk Podlaski coalition, Slawomir Nazaruk – of Podlasie Forum for Minorities. Nikolai Yanovsky, who was a candidate of the “Polish Peasant Party”, received another mandate in the Sejmik of Podlasie.

In the elections to Sejmik of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, “Law and Justice” won, gaining 16 seats. The “Civic Coalition” received 9 seats and the Polish Peasant Party – 5 seats.
