BMP Poisons Residents In Zhlobin District

Local authorities do not respond to citizens' complaints.

“Help, we are choking!” – Zhlobin district residents addressed Belsat with such words. They are forced to breathe air poisoned by emissions from the Belarusian Metallurgical Plant. Local authorities do not respond to complaints from the citizens.

The BMP page contains general words about a large-scale modernization in line with the environmental requirements. But the smoke above the plant is so dense that it seems that the plant is burning. The BMP management is in no hurry to explain what is happening, and refuses to comment on the phone.

Local residents complained to the authorities – it did not help. They have created on the Internet a petition addressed to the Zhlobin regional executive committee with a request to check whether the BMP violates the law on environmental protection and environmental safety requirements.

As local activist Valer Sliapukhin says, the enterprises that pollute the air can be and must be built far from cities and villages.
