Svetlahorsk HR Defender Catches District Executive Committee On Lies
ALENA MASLIUKOVA

Alena Masliukova appealed to the court.

On October 31, the Svetlahorsk district court continued consideration of the complaint of human rights activist Alena Masliukova against the district executive committee. The previous meeting was held on October 16, Homel Spring writes.

The reason for the complaint is the ban on holding a peaceful rally in the town against the work of the bleached pulp plant on October 6. The district executive committee did not allow to hold a rally at the Bumazhnik stadium on that day (precisely, from 16.00 to 18.00), as at that time it was allegedly planned to hold a youth soccer championship. On October 6, Alena Masliukova decided to check if the district executive committee had told the truth, and came to the stadium at the designated time - at 16.00 the stadium was empty.

The complaint of the human rights activist is being considered by judge Liudmila Siadko, who in the summer led a similar process of refusing to hold a picket in support of Ihar Komlik and Henadz Fiadynich (at that time Masliukova’s complaint was not satisfied). At the court session, she began questioning witnesses from the district executive committee, who had to prove that football competition at the Bumazhnik stadium on October 6 was actually held.

So, witness Zasinets Y.M., the coach from the sports school that owns the stadium, was questioned. According to him, on Saturday, October 6, there were two games at Bumazhnik stadium: at 12.00 and at 14.00. He was present at the first one, but not at the second one, therefore he cannot say whether the sporting event ended before 4 pm.

Since the words of Zasinets could not in any way support the position of the district executive committee regarding the refusal to hold a rally, the judge decided to call new witnesses. In addition, Liudmila Siadko found certain inaccuracies with the timing of re-scheduling the football championship from Sunday, October 7 to Saturday, October 6. Indeed, as it turned out during the trial, the original football games were supposed to take place a day later, but they decided to change the date in Homel.

In order to give the representatives of the sports school time to figure out the inaccuracies and to call new witnesses, the judge decided to take a break till November 8.
