The painting will be exhibited at the traditional “Biennale of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture” in Minsk.

“The Islanders” is an allusion to the name “Astravets,” artist Ales Marachkin explained to the nn.by correspondent.

Marachkin’s new work covers the subject of the nuclear power plant under construction in Astravets and threats associated with it.

The painting will be exhibited at the traditional “Biennale of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture” of the Belarusian Union of Artists, which will open on November 22 in the Minsk Palace of Arts (3 Kazlou street).

78-year-old Ales Marachkin is one of the patriarchs of modern Belarusian art. He works in the field of painting, teaches. Marachkin studied (and actually rediscovered) the legacy of Yazep Drazdovich. In the 1970s, Marachkin was a member of the Democratic Association of Artists “Na Paddashku” [“In the Attic”], and was among the founders of the Pahonia creative association.
