Makei: We Consistently Support Russia At International Forums

The Foreign Minister announced that the fundamental approaches of Belarus and the Russian Federation to key issues coincide.

Belarus and Russia express similar opinions on the main problems of the modern world, Belarus consistently supports the Russian side at international forums.

Ensuring international information security is becoming, or rather, has already become a new universal challenge.

This was stated by Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei at the opening of the joint session of the board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and the board of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Minsk, nn.by reports.

Today, despite the widespread declaration of the problem of world security, there is a feeling in Belarus that there is still no real awareness of the growing threat of a major military conflict in the world.

– The destruction of fundamental agreements in the field of international security continues. There is a military buildup, including in Europe. We see much more talks about one's own interests, claims, and concerns than specific steps towards changing the situation, – Makei said.

The Foreign Minister stressed that in this regard, it is important to note again the coincidence of fundamental approaches of Belarus and Russia to key issues of the disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control agenda.

– We consistently support the Russian side at international forums. Ensuring international information security is becoming, or rather, has already become a new global challenge. It is closely associated with increased risks of using information and communication technologies for illegal purposes and with the threat to our countries' security in the digital environment, – Makei noted.

The Minister also drew attention to the issue of the common history with Russia and perception of the Second World War in the world.

– It is not the first time that we are updating measures to counteract attempts which certain forces, let's call them that, take to diminish the contribution of the Soviet Union to the liberation of Europe and Asia from fascism, to revise the outcome of the Second World War and the post-war world order. Everything connected with the Great Patriotic War and the feat of Soviet soldiers is sacred for both Belarusians and Russians. We bring up a new generation of patriots on this history. And it can not be lost, – the Foreign Minister said.

According to Makei, building up an effective dialogue on the identification, sharing and popularization of historical and cultural values of Belarus and Russia can be a significant factor in promoting common historical and cultural heritage, expanding the cultural, informational and educational space of our states at international platforms.
