Head Of Academy Of Sciences: Belarusians Do Not Win Nobel Prize Because Of Modesty

Uladzimir Husakou made an unexpected statement.

Belarusian scientists deserve the most prestigious awards, their modesty has been keeping them in the shadow. Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Uladzimir Husakou expressed this opinion at a press conference in Minsk on Tuesday, sb.by reports.

“There are many Nobel Prize laureates with Belarusian roots in the world. Aaccording to our estimates, there are about three dozen laureates in various fields of science,” – Husakou said. This, including our famous countryman Zhores Alferov.

“Why did it happen so? It seems to me that this happened because Belarusian scientists were modest,” – Husakou said. There was a certain inferiority complex. But this is wrong, the scientist believes.

“Now we, the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences, are setting such an ambitious task... our developments are absolutely not worse than the developments of American, Japanese, Western European scientists in a number of areas. We have the right to claim (the Nobel Prize - note),” – Husakou stressed.

“In terms of IQ, the potential of the Belarusian nation is among the highest in the world,” – the head of the National Academy of Sciences said. Now we are overcoming former modesty and indecision. In the near future we will participate in the Nobel Prize contest, he said. Although participation in the competition, according to him, has recently been associated with certain difficulties: the most complicated selection system, it is necessary to enlist the support of a whole group of developed countries and leading scientific centers.

“It's not easy, but we should participate. Judging by our developments, we have every right and are ready to participate,” – the head of the National Academy of Sciences concluded.
