Ales Chakholski: Authorities Want To Destroy Kurapaty

An “official” monument was erected in Kurapaty.

A monument to the victims of Stalin’s repressions was erected in the Kurapaty tract. The customer of the monument was the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus. The monument became an official memorial.

Belarusians perceive negative the authorities' attention to Kurapaty. Ales Chakholski, the head of the public administration of the Kurapaty National Memorial, told Belsat how he treats the monument, which is being set up today with trade union money.

“Just pay attention – they erect this monument today, for tomorrow's satanic day, the Bolshevik coup in Russia. This is also symbolic. What is happening now in Kurapaty, testifies to the state’s attempt to bring the memorial into this shrine of ours and destroy it...”

Many public figures criticized the monument, which is set up in Kurapaty. Zianon Pazniak, the person who discovered the place of mass executions, also condemned it.
