Pashinyan: CSTO Has Serious Problems

There are many unresolved issues inside the organization.

Acting Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told the journalists about this on December 9, TASS reports.

“Even if [the ex-CSTO General Secretary Yuri] Khachaturov became the general secretary in 2019, the serious questions in the CSTO would not have disappeared from this. I can say that at the last meeting of the EAEU Economic Council we thoroughly discussed serious problems within the organization,” Pashinyan stressed.

On December 6, Lukashenka, talking to journalists on the sidelines of the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg, said that an agreement had been reached on the appointment of a new CSTO Secretary General and added that this would be the representative of Belarus. His words were refuted by Armenia and Russia.

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan made sharp statements against Lukashenka and Nursultan Nazarbayev. The Armenian side was unhappy that Lukashenka spoke about the situation in the CSTO and the problems with the choice of the new Secretary General of the Organization with the Azerbaijani ambassador, and then with the President of Azerbaijan.
