The lawsuit filed by Leanid Zaides is related to covering of the conflict in the stove by the newspaper.

In the morning of December 5, Editor of the newspaper “Novy Chas” Aksana Koub received a text message from the Savetski district court of Minsk.

Aksana Koub informed Radio Liberty that she was summoned to the court on December 17 “in the status of a defendant under the lawsuit of Leanid Zaides on protection of honour, dignity and business reputation, as well as moral damage compensation.”

The lawsuit itself was sent to the editor’s office via mail on December 4, as the Editor-in-Chief of Novy Chas was informed in court. She believes that this lawsuit is connected with the newspaper’s covering of the conflict related to the “Let’s Go Eat” restaurant, built close to the protection zone in Kurapaty.

“We will defend ourselves and the independent journalism as a whole, we are convinced we did everything right. I think this person has no honor and dignity, judging from the events happening around his restaurant. Moreover, we already won a similar lawsuit from Izrailevich,” Aksana Koub says.

Previously, businessman Arkadz Izrailevich sued Novy Chas. He tried to subject the newspaper and journalist Dzianis Ivashyn personally to responsibility through the court, for the insult of honour, dignity and business reputation.

The reason for that was the journalistic investigation into the construction of the notorious restaurant complex “Let’s Go Eat” near Kurapaty.

On September 10, the Savetski district court of Minsk considered the case and declined Izrailevich’s lawsuit. The court resolved that some phrases about Izrailevich did not damage his business reputation or insult him, and the remaining phrases did not concern Izrailevich at all.
